Mariel and Mr. Mog and the Teal Sweater
Mariel hopped on one leg as she struggled to get into her pleated black skirt. With both legs in, she slid it up and zipped the side, pulling her favorite boucle teal sweater over her head as her arms flailed wildly. She loved this sweater - it matched her hair and she liked the vivid contrast of the bright color against her black leggings, boots and skirt. She tugged at the hem until it sat just right, and ran her fingers quickly through her hair.
Stretching her arm to its full length, she picked at a few stray cat hairs on the ribbed cuff of the sweater, discarding them onto the floor. Her phone buzzed with a text message and the screen illuminated. 5:48 PM.
"Oh no, " she moaned. She was going to be late. Again! The last time she was late for her music lessons her tutor had threatened to stop teaching her all together, and he was the best teacher in the city. If she was going to get into Wyverly University on a music scholarship, he was her best bet.
She hooked her finger into her key ring, jerking them off of the night stand in a raucous jangle of metal keys and plastic charms. Snatching up her phone she ran toward the door, reaching down only for a brief moment to pet her white cat. "See you later, Mr. Mog!" Her voice trailed off as she got closer to the door. She certainly didn't see the human-like, up-to-no-good grin on Mr. Mog's face as she latched the door behind her.

If you can't tell, I've been reading the Old Kingdom books by Garth Nix. It started with the recent release of Clariel, but now I'm re-reading Sabriel because I am so loathe to leave the Old Kingdom behind until the next book comes out. The idea's been rolling around in my head recently to play with the idea of Mogget and the descendants of the abhorsen family. So this quick little scene is just me playing with some ideas in my head. Perhaps something will come of it, perhaps not. Either way, here it is.

Fall / Winter Outfits Recap
So once a week or so I'll post an outfit on Facebook for my friends and family. It's kinda fun, because I love style bloggers but have a hard time doing the big "outfit post" thing. So I just overindulge in selfies. One thing it's great for, though, is to recap what my style was like this past fall/winter. I thought I'd do a little post here collecting all of my selfies from October to mid-March and maybe look back on it next fall.
I collect cardigans like they're going to disappear off the face of the planet. I tend to wear a lot of dresses with cardigans and tights - I think this turns them into immediate winter-wear. The dress on the left is from Target, the one in the middle is a fox print dress from Ebay, and the one on the right is a 1970s polka dot dress. The middle cardigan is for sale in my etsy shop. It's so warm and cute.
Looking back, I wore a lot of darker colors for the winter. Lots of navy blue, which I think looks good with my pale skin. In the photo on the left I wore a sweater over a fox print dress for a skirt-look. The right photo is a black dress I bought on Etsy. It's very nice and I think it looks rather classy. ;)
I wear my fair share of pants, especially when the wind chill is below 20 degrees (which is most of the time from January to the end of February). In the middle photo I'm wearing my favorite vintage Etienne Aigner leather riding boots, and a vintage blazer I picked up at the Davis Flea. In the right photo I've got on a great vintage blouse that has a neck that looks kind of like a ...peter pan style cowl? It's neat, and I love it under sweaters.
This vintage skirt I had listed in the Etsy Shop but had to take it out... I just love it too much. The teal and brown combo goes with so many things. I found two matching Banana Republic wool cowl-neck sweaters at thrift stores this year and they are so warm and comfy (left and right photo).
This last set of photos includes a vintage wool L'aiglon dress I bought on Etsy this year and had to do a lot of repairs to (very loose woven wool that had developed a number of holes). The middle is a polka dot dress from Adriana Pappell (one of my favorite modern ready-to-wear designers) and the right is a vintage pointelle sweater and a gray dirndl skirt from the 1970s that is one of my new favorite things in the world.
Well that's it... for now!

Foxburrow Boutique Setup Day 1
Today was Day 1 of the Foxburrow Vintage Boutique setup! There's still plenty of work to be done and items to be added but I thought I'd blog the progress so everyone could see how the space is coming along.
I got the shelves at a yard sale for free, and upgraded them with a little chalkboard paint in the back - I'll have to blog more about that later.
The new garment rack is heavy duty industrial grade and my new dress form will be showing off star pieces in style.
The general idea is that the stock will rotate every 2 weeks and a new selection of garments will be on the rack. So if you are not a fan of sweaters and coats, come back in two weeks for a selection of pretty dresses perfect for valentine's day! The general "feel" of the shop will also change based on the next upcoming holiday or season. So the whole shop will get a makeover for Valentine's day and then another makeover for spring!
This pretty mod coat is perfection for this frigid winter.
Head over heels for the stuffed duck pair in the shop right now!
Most of the items in the retail boutique will not be listed on Etsy simultaneously, so you'll get an exclusive shopping experience when you come visit. Items may be in the boutique first, and then make it onto Etsy, or vice versa!
Well, I'll do another update tomorrow when the booth is ready for action! Hopefully some shoppers will come and pick through this weekend and there will be more room for more new stuff.

I've been a busy gal - adding new goodies to the shop every day! Here are some recent additions that have me in the mood for spring. The flowing crinkle maxi skirt makes me long for a warm, breezy day, and the bold floral button up is colorful and fun! No matter how hard I try, though, I can't wish the winter away. Every time I open my door I feel like this:
I'm just waiting for the week where I get my first 50 degree day. I know I will wear something irrationally lightweight and be cold all day, but I'm ready for it!
In the mean time, I'm trying not to let winter get me down. And a huge help with that this week was being featured as the Vintage Team's Shop of the Week on Etsy! On Etsy, sellers team up in groups that match their interests, and I'm a member of a number of wonderful vintage teams. We work together to identify mysterious objects, promote and assist each other and the camaraderie is great! Teams give us a place to dream our biggest dreams and not be shot down. As Shop of the Week, I got an entire treasury dedicated to my shop! The curator chose my vintage housewares to spotlight. Click through to the treasury and say hello!
